REALLY....????

The other day one of my Facebook friends (who I hope is also reading this!) mentioned to me that she could imagine me training for a triathalon.  I very quickly responded with a Old Angie typical response...sorta like "Yeah...NO!"  I mean, what could she POSSIBLY be thinking?  I am a 44 year old, out of shape, severely overweight woman who can at times barely walk!  How on EARTH could a triathalon be anywhere in my future?!?!?!

But what if it is?

What if I've not quite expanded my vision of where I'm going to end this journey to the New Angie to include the possibility that I might actually compete in a triathalon one day?  I mean, I enjoy riding the bike in the gym...I am learning to run, though admittedly, I do much more walking than running right now...and I've just added swimming laps to my water routine.  Could I really do this?

I really don't know the answer to that question, but I instinctively know this...I need to consider the possibility.  One of the things that I've most lost sight of as an overweight person is the sense of POSSIBILITY that exists in life.  You get the feeling...at least I did...that there are very limited possibilities for you when you carry around this much weight.

Sitting in an airplane seat?  Maybe...if they have a seat belt extender.  Riding a roller coaster?  Not likely...the bar won't clear your gut.  Walking around the mall for a few hours?  Only if my knees will allow it.

But we are not meant to live with these kinds of limits, friends.  God never planned it that way for us!  It's our enemy who tries to steal our possibilities...not our God!  He promises us, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)  That's a promise worth claiming!

So, will I do a triathalon someday???  I still don't know the answer to that.  But THIS I know...IT'S POSSIBLE!  What's possible for you today???

  1. wow, our words can have a huge impact. i said what i said because i have trained and completed two sprint triathlons and your workout routine seemed very similar to what i would do. and...how nice that i planted a seed to grow in your mind. when i was 20 yrs old a runner friend of mine told me i could run a marathon and that was about all we had said regarding that but that "seed" never left my mind. when i was 39 yrs old, i completed my first and only marathon in 4 hours and 1 min. i have every confidence you can do a tri angie. i don't know all the details of your journey but i do know that you are a strong, wonderful woman and i just believe that if it is a desire of yours, you will accomplish it!!!! peace~ rhea

  2. Your words blessed me and planted a seed within me as much as that casual comment your runner friend gave you did for you. I'm not ready to start training for it just yet...I've got some other goals to reach first. But the biggest thing your comment did for me was what I wrote about here...I refuse to think of it as impossible anymore. Congrats on that marathon time! And even more on running it in the first place!! Thanks for reading the blog...and for speaking LIFE to me! Have a great day!
